Overview​

Imam Sadan Sulaiman was born in 1819 at the Cape of Good Hope, the son of Sheikh Sulaiman Abdurahmaan. He became the first Imam of Worcester and played a key role in building the Muslim community there.

Oral History​

Worcester Masjid and Family Connections​

Imam Sadan built the Worcester Masjid in 1878 to honor his father, Shaykh Sulaiman. A title deed dated December 1859 records his early efforts to establish the masjid. Oral history confirms the mosque was completed on 9 May 1878.

Bhyat Family Letter​

A letter preserved by the Bhyat family in the 1960s confirms the family's origin from Medina. It was addressed to Sayed Ghazi Bhafaqi in Saudi Arabia and referenced the descendants of Shaykh Sulaiman.
